  • An Update

The lovely Keri (warning: music) asked for an update, so here ya go! =)

This week I had a test, homework due in each of my classes, some plots to finish for my research, a research trip this summer to plan, and a qualifying exam to study for. Needless to say, I didn't do much knitting. (In case you're wondering, the only thing different about this week was the test. Everything else is pretty steady.) The only knitting time I'm getting is on the bus, which limits me to portable projects. (My pinnate shoulder shawl and Ian's scarf are sneaking up on being done, but stuck at home for now.) So here's the rundown:

    Pacific Sunrise Socks

Pacific Sunrise Socks. Yarn is from Mambocat, standard sock pattern with 1x1 rib on the top. Switched to the blue (also by Mambocat) for the toes since I don't have much of the Pacific Sunrise. Between the fact that the yarn is a tad too thick for the needles and that I do asymmetrical toes (they fit better, but take more concentration), these are not the most pleasant knitting right now. If I only get 15 minutes to knit, you bet it's going to be on something fun. ; )

    Tidal Wave Socks

Tidal Wave Socks. Heel needs to be turned. I definitely don't have the concentration level for that right now.

    So, I made this:

    Plain Jane

Plain Jane Washcloth. Sugar 'n' Creme. Garter border, stockinette inside. Non-stressful. Took three bus trips to finish; my kind of project!

    Then I started this:

    M-D Washcloth

Another washcloth, based on the Baby Genius Burp Cloth from Mason-Dixon Knitting. Super-easy; soothing to knit.

So, yeah...it's pretty boring around here knitting-wise. But it makes me happy. =) Hope y'all have a great weekend!

  • Thanks for the shout out! :) Ahh Miss Ashley...I understand the not having time to knit. I have been so busy at work, that when I get home my brain is completely fried. I don't want to do anything, BUT I have been working on some lace swatches from a book I have. I have to say..absolutely love it! Thanks for the update! :) Miss hearing about all your adventures.

  • I really like the first sock. The colors are fun and cheerful. What size of needles are those. I'm scared of socks cause the smallest needles I've ever worked with are US size 4.

  • @TurtleKeri -

You're welcome! =) I definitely hear you on the brain-frying-feeling. I was supposed to work last night, but as you may be able to tell from the entry, coherent thoughts were not really possible for me after this past week. So I blogged instead! Yay! I'm glad you're playing with lace - it's fun! I can't wait to see what it turns out to be! =)

  • @eretzisraelit -

You should totally try socks! I did my first socks on size 5 needles with worsted weight yarn - it was a great way to learn the techniques and still finish in a reasonable amount of time. The first socks are on 2's and the second are on 0's. Now I like working with the small needles because it means the project lasts longer - more bang for the buck! Good luck. =)

  • @ashpags -

I understand. I have a pair on size 2's that I just can't seem to finish. I am also going to try the Sidewinder socks...they are in my zzz section of Ravelry. I have tried starting them twice, but have ripped them out twice. I am going to try them when my schedule slows down a little bit.

  • @ashpags - I got an email saying you replied, but thanks for making sure :)

I'm going to have to knit some socks. Everyone seems to love them. A few people have told me it's worth the knitting. I actually saw you the other day on Ravelry, I think I was in the College Knitters group, and all of a sudden a username seemed very familiar and it was you :)

  • wow love the yarn in the first pic. I do my knitting on the bus too...don't get much time otherwise...socks are useful to knit...except for everyone now keeps asking for a pair...:)

  • Good to see you, ashpags, though I'm a few days late. I've also been MIA a bit from blogging, but doing more of that than you have while doing less knitting. Another couple of months before life gets back to something resembling normal.

Glad to see you are getting some projects in. Thank goodness for bus trips, huh?

  • "Soothing to knit" ... that's what it's all about, I reckon!! Well said!

I love those colours you've got going there, all the bluesy turquoisys ... I think I need to visit my yarn shop!!!
